Fall sports are coming to an end, which means Sectionals are here.
Shenendehowa boys’ soccer beat Shaker, the number 1 seed in section 2, 3-1. The team had watched a film on them prior to the game. They won their fourteenth sectional against Niskayuna on Monday night. The Niskayuna boys’ team is very good as well; the boys played them on October 14th but tied in overtime 0-0. This time, Shen came in with a different approach.
Senior Andrew Guzi said “We changed our offensive approach by training in a new formation. It improved our attacking presence and rhythm between players.”
Leading them to success, senior James Homan kicked the winning goal, ending the game 1-0. “Winning that type of game is an unbelievable feeling, I can’t compare it to any other game,” said Guzi. The boy team now moves on to regionals in Syracuse this Saturday, taking on Fayetteville – Manlius.
Girls’ volley ball won their fifth straight sectional title on Tuesday against Bethlehem with a score of 3-0. The girls will now be moving on to regionals on Saturday, November 8th.
Senior Stephanie Fodera said “Our team is beyond excited to move on, especially it being our last season together; we want to make it the best one!”
Last year, the girls lost in their regional game, but this year, coming out with their win, they will move on to states for the first time, taking place in Glens Falls Saturday, November 15th.
